Have you ever felt helpless? You would like to make changes in your life but don’t feel you have the strength to do so? Then perhaps you need to recite positive affirmations!
An affirmation is the action or process of affirming something and comes from the Latin word affirmaire, which means “to strengthen”. A positive affirmation would therefore strengthen and positively influence change in your life.
Repeating positive words release power into the universe so that what you say will begin to happen. Reciting positive words and phrases work on the mind, and eventually, they become reality. This is the same for negative or idle words, so we need to be careful about what we say.
Initially, you may feel awkward, reciting affirmations. You may even feel like you are lying to yourself. This is not so, however, because positive affirmations you recite will most probably be your dreams within waiting to be unleashed.
You may feel uncomfortable saying what is not currently occurring but it is worth noting that current facts are not always future truths. We have great control of our future truths through what we profess.
A Biblical proverb mentions something similar:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof ~ PROVERBS 18:21
Positive Affirmations bring Change
Research also supports this notion of change coming about from daily reciting affirmations.
If we continuously say “I can”, then the power in our words will begin to work so that we become able to accomplish what we say. Those who say “I can’t” most probably find things difficult to do.
Similarly, chances are that those who always say “this is always happening to me”, always have it happen to them, whatever that thing is.
Affirmation or Wishful thinking?
Are you positively affirming or wishfully thinking? Without goals and a plan of action, you would just be saying positive words. Positive affirmation is not magic and requires some action in order to bring things to fruition.
By taking steps to achieve your goal, no matter how small, you will be moving mountains out of the way of your success.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also ~ JAMES 2:26.
Although the words above in context refer to helping a person in need as a demonstration of one’s faith, an important lesson can be learned. There must be some corresponding action in order for one to prove that they believe what they say they do.
It is important to set goals which correspond with your affirmations. Setting end goals are important, but setting mini-goals throughout the process of achieving your main goal is just as important. This would enable you to celebrate achievements and potentially give you the zeal to continue working towards your end goal.
